TerraNova

TerraNova is a project focused on renaturing and rebuilding our connection with the surrounding flora and fauna. We created an immersive, walkable experience at the Floating University Berlin, located in a rainwater basin above Tempelhof Field.

plan 1

Our structure connects the old buildings and walkways with nature and animals.

plan 3

We introduced changes in elevation to let spectators experience different biotopes from varying perspectives.

plan 2

We created three different types of modules: Sediment Fortification (orange), Structural (black), and Water Collection (stone blue). With each rainfall, new sediment is transported into the basin, gradually building up over months and years. This natural process creates additional habitats and supports continuous growth of flora and fauna.

The structures were 3D printed with clay. We used a Universal Robots UR5e and a specialized printing head.

We implemented a grid flooring system to ensure structurally stable and durable, yet permeable walkways that integrate seamlessly with the environment.
